The DataIQ Awards, the hallmark of excellence in the data industry, have announced three new categories to celebrate all aspects of the industry.
The new categories are:
“Look, let’s be brutally honest for a minute and recognise that there is data that literally no one asked for or cares about,” said David Reed, chief knowledge officer and evangelist, DataIQ. “People always praise data sets for being so informative and accurate, but what about all those times data just misses the mark? We should celebrate the effort it took to source, analyse and present data that just doesn’t matter to anyone. This is why we have created the award for Best example of data that no one asked for.”
Examples of submissions could include the frequency at which toenails on the left foot need to be trimmed when compared to the right foot, or the optimum number of spiders that can live in your house before you notice.
“Data is not all fun and games,” said Adrian Gregory, chief executive officer, DataIQ. “There is a darkness to it too and a sense of dissatisfaction – almost hopelessness. The finest data submission that can encapsulate this listlessness with no excitement or occupation will leave with the title of Most dismal data, if it actually means anything or anyone cares.”
When asked for an example of what should be in a submission, Adrian shrugged and went back to staring out the window.
“The winner of Data with that certain je ne sais quoi needs to have that special something,” said Reed. “It needs to really...pop... you know? Just have that thing that makes you stop and go ‘yeah’. We want submissions to be more than just going A to B to C; it must go from C to A then back to C and all the way to X!”
The team at DataIQ are confident you already know what submissions for Data with that certain je ne sais quoi need to include.
