Every day we get up to the usual routine, and prepare ourselves for whatever the day has to throw at us. So what do you do when things don’t quite go as planned? And what would make your life simpler?
For one - knowing that the traffic is building up on a main trunk road is useful, so that you can plan ahead and take an alternate route; or having an ear on the radio for the weather forecast can give us the foresight to pack an umbrella, or wellies depending on where you live! So being forearmed is key to these particular events. Then, once we’ve safely navigated the rush hour traffic and settled down to drink that coffee (bought contact-less of course) it’s time for a quick catch up on the latest news on Social Media, check your calendar on your mobile (which is always synchronised with your work diary) and order something from the sandwich delivery for lunch time. But as you’re browsing through you get a reminder that it’s that really lovely neighbour’s birthday – the one who always cuts your front lawn for you while you’re at work. But you haven’t even thought to get them a card – and surely they deserve a well-thought out present.
Imagine if all those important things like not forgetting that birthday, could be triggered by alerts from your favourite stores. The stores would probably already have previous online orders from you. Now imagine if the stores asked for details like - Is this a gift; Who is it for; What date is the event; Do you want it delivering direct to their address – and then imagine if they could tie that purchase data to the other items you’ve viewed in your search for that perfect gift. So the next year with a couple of days’ notice, you could receive an email or SMS with a link to a personalised page full of offers for that special occasion or person, with 1-click ordering, suggestions for a personalised card and everything arranged for delivery to previously saved addresses – linked of course to the recipient’s name and/or date of occasion. Now that’s a service I’d certainly like and wouldn’t at all mind giving stores a bit more detail on orders so that they can offer a much more considered and packaged deal.
We all want things to work as smoothly as possible and if retailers could capture a bit more data the possibilities would be endless - so you could focus on the truly important things – living your life.
