Skills: Do managers need to be good practitioners?
The step from behind the screen working as a practitioner to the front of the screen as manager of a team can feel like a long one. It is not for everybody in data and analytics - ensuring there is a career path for those who stay on the delivery side is increasingly being recognised.
But for those who do choose to move away from hands-on output, one of the most challenging issues, especially early on, is how to keep their skills fresh and whether this is even necessary.
To run a team, do you need to be able to jump in and help out?
Or should the focus be on managerial abilities, ensuring the right balance, keeping motivation high, dealing with stakeholder relationships and being the face of data and analytics within the business?
As much therapy session as best practice exchange, this Roundtable is an opportunity for DataIQ Leaders making their way up the career ladder to calibrate their challenges with those who are pursuing a similar path.
