Analytics: Gatekeepers or bottleneck?
Good news for the analytics function is when demand from the business takes off and multiple stakeholders want support for their projects.
Bad news for the analytics function is when demand from the business takes off…because then the issue of how to prioritise and maintain delivery rates becomes very sharp.
It is increasingly well understood that the analytics function should act in a gatekeeper role over projects that require data, either as raw fuel or evidence. Core to its capability is identifying potential benefits and applying prioritisation before anything goes ahead.
Yet this can look like a bottleneck to business (and especially to any stakeholder whose project gets turned down). Equally, capacity will always be less than demand so as the number of projects grows, so will the number that get refused.
This breakfast briefing will discuss the challenge for analytics around how to act as a champion and value-driver while also keeping a tight focus on optimising the use of its services. It will provide an opportunity to share tactics for filtering projects and managing pushback from the business.
