The DataIQ 100 has always been about recognising individuals who are at the top of their game - achieving impact within their organisations, having an influence across the data industry and engaging with DataIQ as part of the community we are proud to bring together. As this year’s list amply demonstrates, there is an abundance of talent demonstrating these qualities.
This year, we are introducing a new level of recognition. During lockdown, our knowledge and strategy director, David Reed, reviewed everything that DataIQ had ever published or learned from this community. That encompassed over 1,600 articles, 800 profiles of data leaders featured in the DataIQ 100 since 2014, more than 600 awards entries, 3,500 research responses, hundreds of hours of roundtable discussions and dozens of conference presentations.
Out of that deep dive emerged his book, “Becoming Data Literate” which is rapidly finding its place as a must-read for data leaders, teams, practitioners and their stakeholders. At the heart of the book sits something else that is new - the DataIQ Way, our framework for how organisations can improve their performance by leveraging data and analytics while ensuring these are delivered by high-performing teams.
This framework identifies five critical dimensions: vision, business strategy, value creation, culture and data foundations. If each of these is considered as part of an holistic transformation, then the gap between ambition and delivery gets narrowed.
To reflect our new positioning and to reinforce our belief that people are the real data asset, we have created five new pieces of recognition. Awarded in partnership with Tableau, they identify five individuals who we see as role models and reference points for the activities we advocate within the DataIQ Way.
As Andy Cotgreave, technical evangelist at Tableau, says: “For data leaders in the digital era, we know that bringing data to the forefront is a challenging journey. It requires changing the DNA of everyone in the organisation and reimagining how we think and behave around data. Those who are successful, create an environment of curiosity, which ultimately delivers better, faster decision-making.”
“What do these data leaders have in common? They are masters of vision and strategy, creating value, enabling people and championing data cultures. Through the lens of these critical characteristics, the DataIQ Way recognises the exceptional data talent we have in the UK. Every day, I am inspired by the deep, foundational changes that are being made by revolutionary data leaders across all industries. It is fantastic to see the DataIQ Way characteristics being recognised!”
